Tic Tac Toe that never misleads the player.
Tic Tac Toe is one of the most familiar games there is, and the established versions on Android tend to wrap it in heavy advertising, template visuals and feedback that congratulates a player who has just lost. Grid Duel is a Tic Tac Toe game for Android phones built around the opposite: short, calm matches in which every state is designed and the game never misleads the player.
It is played on 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 boards, against one of three computer rivals or against a friend passing the same phone. The winning line is always drawn, a loss is called a loss, and a draw says that nobody got a line.
Everything collectable is earned by playing. Stars, levels, a daily chest and seven medals lead to 24 marks, boards, win effects and themes, each previewed before it is chosen. The only thing for sale is the removal of ads.
Who it is for.
Quick breaks
Matches of a minute or two, played one-handed with the sound off, with the first move two taps from launch.
Two people, one phone
A two-player mode that remembers both names, keeps a running score and offers Undo for the last move.
Players who want a challenge
Sage plays perfectly on 3x3 and plans ahead on larger boards, and Trophies records results per rival and per board.
Collectors
Twenty-four marks, boards, win effects and themes, unlocked with stars or by earning medals.
What it does.
Shipped capabilities only. Planned work is listed separately, under “On the roadmap.”
Three boards, each with its rule
3x3 needs three in a row; 4x4 and 5x5 need four. The rule is shown before every match.
Three rivals with a personality
Pip plays fast and forgets to block. Rook always takes a win and blocks a threat, but rarely plans ahead. Sage plans ahead, never loses on 3x3, and unlocks after Rook is beaten three times.
Fair opponents
Rivals see only the board, never change strength in secret, and reply within two seconds behind a visible thinking bubble.
Honest results
The winning line is always drawn. A loss is never congratulated, and the result explains what happened, such as the line the rival took.
Two players on one phone
The same boards and rules with names, a choice of who starts, Swap marks and a running session score.
Hint and Undo
One free hint a day, then optional hints in exchange for watching an ad, at most three per match. Undo takes back a full turn at no cost.
Progression earned by play
Up to three stars per match, XP and levels, a daily goal of three wins that opens the daily chest, a seven-day track and seven medals. No currency is sold.
A collection with preview
Eight mark sets, six boards, five win effects and five themes. Every item can be previewed before it is chosen, and equipping is free and reversible.
Offline, one-handed, sound off
Play, progression, the collection and the daily chest work without a connection. Marks differ by shape as well as colour, and reduced motion and system text size are respected.
How it works.
Choose a rival and a board
Pick Pip, Rook or Sage, a 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 board, and who moves first. The last choices are remembered.
Play the match
Tap a cell to place a mark. The rival thinks briefly and replies, and the first complete line wins.
Read the result
The result gives the verdict, up to three stars, the XP earned and anything newly unlocked.
Rematch or collect
Rematch keeps a running score for the session. Stars unlock marks, boards, effects and themes in the Collection.

Privacy and data.
Grid Duel has no accounts. Progress, settings and the collection stay on the device; anonymous usage data, crash reports and ads are handled by Google services, subject to the player’s choices.
- Level, stars, medals, collection, settings and any names typed for a two-player match are stored only on the device.
- Ads, personalised ads, usage measurement and crash reports each have their own switch in Settings.
- Where the law requires consent first, the game asks before switching anything on, and every answer lets the player continue.
- No name, email address, contacts or precise location is collected, and personal data is not sold for money.
- The game is intended for players aged 13 and older.
